The Veteran's Community Project, or VCP, is expecting to start building homes for veterans in the upcoming weeks. Currently, the program is seeking volunteer help to move the project along.

HMS Development donated about 3.5 acres adjacent to its planned Mountain Brook subdivision, with the Veterans Village going in on about 2.5 of those acres, said HMS partner Kevin Mulshine. The remaining land is going to Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley for eight homes.

The Mountain Brook subdivision is located west of Home Depot and Target.

The project is expected to build 26 tiny houses and a 3,000-square foot community center. Veterans will be allowed to live in the fully furnished tiny houses for free.

"The first phase of the Mountain Brook subdivision, which includes VCP Village - Longmont, is in its final round of approvals with the city of Longmont," states a news release from VCP.

The organization plans to pour foundations this summer and "go vertical as soon as possible," the news release states.

VCP will need volunteers to assist with construction efforts. Those interested can sign up here.

"Building the tiny houses will be an incredible opportunity for the community to come together and create something truly life-changing," VCP said in the news release.
