A total of $1,641,965 was raised by the 107th Annual Weld County Fair’s Junior Livestock Sale, which took place on July 28. The proceeds will be donated to Weld County 4-H and the Future Farmers of America (FFA). In 2024, the sale raised a record-breaking $1,841,068.00. There were a total of 388 buyers and 650 people in attendance.
“These youth have put in so many hours into preparing themselves and their animals for this sale,” said Commissioner Chair Perry Buck. “We are very proud of these youth, and we appreciate the continued support of their families and community members.”
The largest sale was the grand champion market beef owned by Shawn Rothe and purchased by Guttersen Ranch for $45,000. Kade Smith’s grand champion market swine sold for $19,000 to A Concrete Inc. The sale also included sheep ($13,000 for grand champion), goats ($9,000), pen of meat rabbits ($4,250), chickens ($3,500), and turkeys ($3,500).
There were 245 animals of seven different species included in the sale. Buyers and attendees who didn’t want to buy the entire animal were able to “add-on” any amount of money to support the sale-qualifier.
In 2019, the Weld County fair became the highest grossing junior livestock sale in Colorado with $1.1 million in proceeds. The proceeds have continued to increase each year through 2024 and declined by about $200,000 this year.
