The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office announced on July 7 that Zasquin Benally-Bartell, 31, is facing two felony counts of fourth-degree arson for the June 14 fire that engulfed about a quarter acre near Flagstaff Mountain. She was served with a court summons and is set to appear in court on Friday, July 11. Twenty firefighters were able to contain the blaze and put the fire out within about two hours.
Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks fire investigators determined there were two points of origin for the June 14 fire. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office tracked down Benally-Bartell as the suspect based upon evidence found at the scene of the fire and eyewitness statements.
Benally-Bartell is a Louisville resident and faces charges for fourth degree arson. There are different classes of felony fourth degree arson based on the value of the property that was damaged. Sixth degree, fourth-degree felony arson involves property valued higher than $2,000 while class two felony, fourth degree arson is for property valued higher than $1 million.
