A 13-year-old driver collided with two vehicles and a mostly-empty Boulder Valley School District bus last week, resulting in four people being transported to the hospital, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash occurred near Lookout Road and U.S. 287 in Boulder County at 8:11 a.m. after a 13-year-old girl driving her parents' Chevrolet Suburban hit another vehicle, which then collided with another vehicle, which hit a BVSD school bus, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler. The girl’s parents were not in the vehicle and were unaware she was driving it, Cutler said.

The 13-year-old received a citation but was not injured, Cutler said. Other drivers sustained moderate injuries.

The Boulder Valley School District bus was at the beginning of its route and only contained a driver and one student, said spokesperson Randy Barber. Neither were injured in the crash, according to Barber.

Four people were transported to the hospital, Cutler said.

A secondary BVSD bus took over the bus route, Barber said. Information was not immediately available about damage to the bus involved in the crash.

The road was temporarily closed after the crash but is now open, Cutler said.
