Johnston joined the family business just months after his graduation from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, where he learned the camaraderie between doctor and patient is important to maintain trust. He credits his father in teaching him how to care for people and help them understand their situations.

The goal of events such as Drive-In Bingo is to bring people back to the Village at the Peaks and counter the decline in sales businesses have seen since statewide restrictions were put in place in March. Speaking anonymously, staff members at Village at the Peaks businesses expressed concern about the volume of sales, saying they have yet to meet even half of the numbers seen on a busy night last summer.

“At our core, we’re a group of friends and outdoor enthusiasts with a passion for craftsmanship, on a pursuit to get more people outside, more often,” said Lucy Jacobson, the master of “strategery” at Rossmönster Vans.

A recent heatwave and the continuing threat of the coronavirus might have slowed down businesses all over Longmont but it hasn’t stopped them.

The closures will begin later this month and extend to September. City officials said if the closures are not bringing more foot traffic into shops and restaurants after 30 days, they can pull traffic-control barricades and return Main Street to normal.
