New study details backcountry risks ahead of pandemic ski season
The makeup of those users is now coming to light, thanks to a new study released by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). “We wanted to be ready for this potential increase in new backcountry users, but we also wanted to know if that’s the group we should be focused on,” said Greene. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center posts daily, regional avalanche and backcountry weather forecasts on its website through May 31.

Tuesday night fires at sugar mill deemed 'suspicious,' causes under investigation
Fire crews were called at 6 p.m. Tuesday to the sugar mill. When they arrived, personnel found an approximately 25-by-50-feet outdoor debris pit to the south of the mill’s storage area engulfed in flames, according to a news release.
