The Regional Transportation District will close two bus stops in Longmont this weekend because of road construction.
RTD in an email sent last week announced the northbound and southbound stops at Pike Road and Main Street will be closed Friday through Sunday. The closures affect route 324, according to RTD.
The city is completing work along Pike Road to improve vehicular, cyclist and pedestrian safety; enhance multimodal transportation; and repair and maintain aging asphalt pavement, according to the project website. Last week it announced the three-week closure of a section of Coffman Street from Pike Road to Utah Way as part of the ongoing project.
The overall Pike Road improvement project is expected to cost $3.98 million, with funding coming from the city’s 3/4-cent Street Fund Sales and Use Tax.
Pike Road consists of one lane of travel in each direction with left- and right-turn lanes at intersecting streets except for Coffman, and doesn’t include on-street bike lanes.
The project will add left-turn lanes at Coffman Street in both directions of travel on Pike Road.
Work also will include adding on-street bike lanes for the length of Pike Road, installing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, medians and traffic-calming devices, as well as a traffic light at Pike and South Coffman Street. The project also includes realigning South Pratt Parkway at Pike Road.
Construction began in March and is expected to last seven months, weather permitting. Learn more about the project here. Those with questions about the project can call the 720-526-2044 or email [email protected].
