Although the district has provided the necessary technology for teachers to reach students, virtual PE classes still have their challenges.

“I lived and breathed the work on this building for four years and I think everybody involved with this did a fantastic job,” Laura Hess, executive director of special education for the St. Vrain Valley School District, said. “It’s amazing.”

Hosted by the Longmont Museum’s curator of history, Erik Mason, tours will hit historic stops along Main Street and Third Avenue. 

Saturday’s Longmont Main Street Chalk Festival was a part of a revamped Longmont ArtWalk Summer on the Streets series put on by the Firehouse Art Center. Instead of a giant event that shuts down vehicle traffic in the heart of downtown, smaller celebrations were scheduled on the sidewalks this year.

Traffic deaths rose by just 1% over the first six months of 2020, from 256 last year to 259 this year, according to preliminary data from CDOT. But the fatality rate per vehicle mile traveled jumped by 20%, to just over one death per 100 million miles. 

Environmental engineer Kyle Bibby is coordinating a nationwide research network sponsored by the National Science Foundation that aims to help scientists pool their work in this area. Students will have the opportunity to brainstorm with their peers about how to improve the library, specifically for their age group. The library also has suggested the youths work on planning programs, designing displays or book reviews.
