Executive Director Joseph Zanovitch and the HOPE team, using $100,000 in grants, developed the safe lots approach based on similar programs in California and Seattle. Zanovitch expects to formally unveil the Longmont version of safe lots next week.

A 26-year-old man was in critical condition Friday morning after he was shot by Longmont police during a confrontation at an apartment complex parking lot in which he drew a BB gun on officers. The gun looked identical to a handgun, Longmont Police Deputy Chief Jeff Satur said. 

The advisory group was formed after council in October voted unanimously to declare a climate emergency.
