SVVSD has invited each school to nominate two parents to join the Parent Coronavirus Update and Advisory Committee. While some schools are still identifying their representatives, 80 parents are registered.

The document underscores the benefits of in-person schooling, noting that families with limited resources often have a harder time supporting remote learning, meaning those students lose out on more educational opportunities and risk lifelong impacts. But education leaders said the report doesn’t address the primary challenges facing schools in the pandemic.

SVVSD will know more after next meeting with Boulder County Public Health which will be held on Nov. 18.

The bulk of Colorado’s coronavirus relief money earmarked for education has gone to school districts and institutions of higher education. While that money has mostly funded schools’ immediate response to the pandemic’s challenges, Gov. Jared Polis also set aside discretionary relief dollars for longer-term improvements to Colorado’s educational system.

In a typical year, the annual gala can raise around $250,000 between ticket sales and auctions. Money raised goes toward student scholarships, innovation grants for teachers, operational expenses, the annual Crayons to Calculators school supply drive and more. 

Students are allowed to attend in-person or virtually as COVID-19 level changes to Orange in Boulder County.
