Twin Peaks has seen an influx of applications in recent weeks, after the St. Vrain Valley School District announced that all public school students would start the year learning from home.

Teachers and staff working on-site “better ensures consistent schedules, access to teaching materials and/or work schedules, and a focused environment for instruction,” said Kerri McDermid, spokeswoman for the district.

State public health officials said the new guidance, issued Wednesday, was developed through feedback from school district officials, teachers, school nurses, local public agencies, and clinicians. They said it was both more detailed and more nuanced than the original guidance issued July 30.

A group of 20 parents, students and other concerned community members on Wednesday evening rallied outside the St. Vrain Valley School District Educational Services Center to protest SVVSD’s recent decision to begin the school year in an online-only format.

Danielle Holmes felt herself teetering toward emotional collapse while trying to attend classes at Front Range Community in Longmont and raise her special-needs teenage daughter. “I was on decline,” said 39-year-old Holmes.

The Elevations Foundation recently announced it has awarded scholarships to five St. Vrain Valley School District graduates.

Students will attend online and in-person this semester.
