District assurances still aren’t quelling the dread many teachers and school staff members are feeling as the new school year approaches, said Susie Hidalgo-Fahring, a Longmont City Council member who will teach third grade this year at Indian Peaks Elementary.

In outdoor ceremonies held simultaneously at 9 a.m. at high school fields throughout the district, grads got their diplomas and to the applause of much smaller crowds than those of ceremonies prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

“With the hybrid model we have a series of things to mitigate risk,” Superintendent Don Haddad said. “We know we will never fully mitigate 100% of all risk.”

The Center for Integrated Manufacturing is the only college facility in the state with four advanced manufacturing programs under one roof, according to FRCC officials.

Starting slow with a reduced number of children, the school hopes to reach 50 students in the fall.

Meeting with Boulder County Public Health experts aimed at making needed updates to tentative plan announced last month.

“I want to make this point very clear, that masks will be worn by students all through pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, “ St. Vrain Valley School District Superintendent Don Haddad said during a video session with the board on Wednesday. 

Despite the 2020 competitive season being canceled, the association stressed this is not the end of music programs for the coming school year: “(The decision) certainly is not a death knell for instrumental music. This will provide an opportunity for all of us to seek new ideas, activities, instructional processes that will enhance the growth of instrumental music education.”

The ceremonies, with some exceptions, will be at 9 a.m. July 25 at individual school fields or stadiums. Graduates will each be limited to two guests who live in their households.

The program is estimating around 11,000 students, 5,900 of whom attend SVVSD schools, are in need of supplies for the 2020-21 school year.
