The $32.7 million fund — called Response, Innovation, and Student Equity Education, or RISE Education — is available to high-needs school districts, charter schools and public institutions of higher learning, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

At a meeting Tuesday, the Colorado High School Activities Association Board of Directors voted to not reconsider adjustments to the 2020-21 calendar approved on Aug. 4.

Parents Involved in Education, or PIE, a multi-agency collaborative effort aims to engage monolingual Spanish-speaking parents to take an active role in their child’s education.

Although the district has provided the necessary technology for teachers to reach students, virtual PE classes still have their challenges.

“I lived and breathed the work on this building for four years and I think everybody involved with this did a fantastic job,” Laura Hess, executive director of special education for the St. Vrain Valley School District, said. “It’s amazing.”

Y locations across the region are offering remote learning and child care programs for kindergarten through fifth grade students in St. Vrain Valley, Boulder Valley, Weld RE-5J and Thompson school districts. 

Money from the Colorado COVID Relief Fund grant will be used to continue and expand the program to provide meals for adults and youth, take-home groceries, and to add additional distribution sites, according to a news release.

While “innovation” in the Innovation Center’s name conjures up images of robotics and aeronautics and other high-tech fields, it doesn’t exclude conservation. “Although it’s not a biology center or an ecology center, they’re innovating how to raise these fish,” Boulder County Parks and Open Space wildlife biologist Mac Kobza said.
